Johanna Schubert (she/her) is an MSW originally from Brooklyn New York who has been in Connecticut for over 20 years. In addition to her work at UConn, Johanna serves as the Policy and Advocacy Director for Hartford Communities that Care, a violence prevention non profit agency in the north end of Hartford. Her focus is on looking at violence as a public health issue and seeking to change the systems within which communities are injured. Previously, Johanna served as an outreach director for the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, connecting those of Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths over their commonalities as well as celebrating their differences. Johanna’s work in the community has earned her several awards and recognitions including a “Hometown Hero” award in the service of saving lives, and the opportunity to present at local and national conferences on violence prevention. When not at work, you can find Johanna hanging out with her teenage son or planning the next West Hartford Pride events, as she has served as Co-Chair of that organization for 5 years.
